Palace of Gold, Treasures from the Topkapi, Istanbul. This jewelry is adapted from a detail of an 18th century aigrette, or turban ornament, decorated with emeralds. The ceremonial turbans worn by the Ottoman sultans often bore jeweled aigrettes that reflected the magnificence of the ruler. The aigrette is from the collection of the Topkapi Palace Museum. Length: 22cm
