Empress Filigree Brooch Sterling Silver
[843B]
From the Latin Filum granum (wire grain). The technique of producing fine, lacy filigree involves drawing mainly pure silver or gold into very thin threads that are twisted into intricate patterns. This exquisitely rendered jewelry is a good representation of this technique which dates back in China to the Han Dynasty (210 BC). Through trade in the 16th and 17th centuries, Chinese filigree found its way to countries such as Portugal and the Netherlands where openwork filigree is still very popular today. Sterling silver with semiprecious stones. Diameter 4cm
